Round Of Last 8 (Quarters)

You have till Saturday for these...

Germany v Argentina
Italy v Ukraine
England v Portugal
Brazil v France

Good luck

After 56 Games

Alex S-H sticks with his belief that France are good and it pays off as they make the quarters, Pete Timothy was the only other person to pick up a point for this game making this the joint second most unpredicted game after Ghana 2-0 Czech Republic (joint with Poland-Ecuador).

Incidently France were involved in the highest scoring game when they beat Togo 2-0. (47 points).

Joff, Pete Cox and Paul Ferris all picked up 3 points for the Brazil game.

*these scores are calculated by giving each game a weighting of 1 which is distributed among the people who scored points for that game. i.e. if 1 person qot the score correct and 7 people got the result corect then the 1 person would score 0.3 and the others 0.1 each.

The more points you get on this score is determined by how many games you get points for and by how unlikely the result is that you predicted. So in predicting a Ghana win against the Czech Rep Phil picked up 1 point.

After 54 Games

4 people reach the 100 point mark with only 10 games left to play its still anyones game (except Switzerland who can't take penalties for chocolate)

Mike and Phil Richardson pick up 6/6 for todays games and for those of you fortunate to forget to give me a score for the Switzerland Ukraine encounter, you all got 0-0's entered and therefore 3 points.

Spain v France scores still needed.

It was 2 of my former housemates, Joff and Martin who correctly guessed an England 1-0 win but noone had Portugal down as 1-0 winners against Holland.

7 people had Ukraine down to reach the quarters (Only Phill has them through to the Semis)
and 2 people had Switzerland reaching the last 8 (Martyn and Phil R).

The table below includes the number of correct results (both 3/1 points) which results puts Alex Cass 2 clear of me*.

After 50 Games

Congratulations to 'Old' John Duncan who got both today's scores correct moving him up to 4th. 'Grange' Phil Richardson was the only other person to get the Argentina Mexico score correct.

4 other people got the Germany 2-0 score (both Alexs* and both Pauls)

Alex 'Hair' Cass moves to the top of the table as Paul 'Martin's Dad' White fails to predict Argentina going through to the quarter finals.

The table below includes which country each person has predicted to win the tournament.

After The Group Stages

Now it gets exciting as here is the league tables including the teams going through scores.

The best effort was by Dave Hawkes who got 14 / 16 of the teams whose only mistakes were Poland and Czech Republic.

Dave Jennings scored most points yesterday with 8 out of a possible 12. Alex Cass and Paul Ferris both got 7.

Need scores for Saturday from some of you still.

Switzerland v Ukraine
Spian v France

Germany v Sweden
Argentina v Mexico
England v Ecuador
Portugal v Holland
Italy v Australia
Brazil v Ghana

And when these are sorted out...

Switzerland/South Korea/France v Spain/Ukraine/Saudi Arabia/Tunisia
Spain/Ukraine v Switzerland/South Korea/France

After 44 Games

Everyone (who gave scores) went for a Brazil win but only Rob Stevens said the margin would be 4-1.

Pete Swan and Alex S-H said 2-2 for the Australia Croatia game and 5 people got the Ghana USA result correct.

Noone predicted Ghana would progress (these scores will be added tonight).

The days winners with 5 points were Alex Cass, Darren and Pete Swan.

Pete Timothy, Dave Hawkes, Jon Brombley and Alex Chase have failed to give me scores recently so have been given 0-0's for the last games. As you can see this does not gain you too many points!

After 29 Games

Sorry this has been a while - was on a boat in the Solent / Southampton Water...

Friday: Argentina scored 6 and Joff was the closest predicting 4 goals. 5 people went for 2-1 to Holland against Ivory Coast (Dave L, Darren, Dave S, Rob and the Monkey).

Saturday: 40 points were scored off the Portugal Iran game (2nd highest after Italy Ghana) but the 2 shock results for Ghana and USA only provided 11 points between them. Only Phil Richardson went for a Ghana win. Mike and Alex S-H got the Italy, USA 1-1 draw correct - Rob would have had it right but changed his prediction to an Italy win last minute.

Sunday: Paul White and Martyn start to pull away at the top, both picking up 6 points today. John Duncan also got the France draw correct. Pete Cox and Lawro also got the Brazil Australia result correct. Phill got the Italy Croatia result spot on.

After 20 Games

Germany, Ecuador and England are through (i will be adding on the team points at the end of the group games)

8 people said England would win 2-0 and picking up 3 points. Rob was most optimistic with 5-0 to England but still picks up a point.

6 people got the Sweden 1-0 Paraguay score spot on but no-one said Ecuador 3-0 Costa Rica.

Todays winners were Pete Cox (6), Paul Ferris (6), Pete Timothy (6), Paul White (6), Lawro (6), Dave Leach (5) and John Duncan (5).

This puts Paul F joint lead with Paul W 1 point behind.

After 17 Games

A good day for the Martyn/Martin's both picking up 4 points today, but an even better day for the Paul's with both Paul Ferris and Paul White getting 5 points each. Mark also got 5 points correctly getting the Tunisia, Saudi Arabia 2-2 draw.

Damon and Adair are the only 2 people to pick up no points today.

The best predictions of the competition so far has to go to Phill for his optimistic 11-0 for Tunisia against Saudi Arabia.

C'mon England.

After 11 Games

With a terrific win for Australia, Czech Republic and Italy today the leaderboard has changed somewhat...

Mike Mayes, Alex Shapland-Howes and Phill Monk all pick up 5 points (Phill the only person to suggest 3-0 Czech win)

11 people correctly guessed the correct Italy score including the Monkey (the average of all the scores).

Dave Hawkes has the lowest score due to not giving me any predictions (but he is in Germany), He and Darren were the only people to fail to pick up points today.
